Meet The Team

Gareth Shaw

Founder & Managing Director

During his impressive 23-year career in the British Army, Gareth was responsible for planning, deploying, sustaining, and assuring digital networks for the military. This experience led him to found Pera Prometheus in 2020, with a mission to provide tailored information and cybersecurity consulting services to both SMEs and large organisations operating within the Defence Industry.

Gareth’s driving force? To promote a type of security culture that doesn’t just meet industry standards, it becomes an integral part of each organisation’s DNA by making information and cybersecurity relevant and relatable to each business and its people.

Leading both Pera Prometheus and your organisation towards success, Gareth’s commitment to effective team leadership and aligning information security services with your business objectives is the path we’ll walk together to secure your future.

Simon Jones

Head of Business Development

Simon thoughtfully guides organisations through difficult information risk management challenges. His considered approach and low-key style inspire trust and confidence in the confidential world of defence and security. He finds immense satisfaction in every project that improves security capability – great results for the organisations he works with and pride in helping protect our nation.

His deep-seated commitment to information security stems from 22 years as an Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, during which time he travelled half-way round the world and back, serving in countries near and far. Amongst his many arduous operational tours of duty, he found time to be a military driving examiner and had fun with tanks, trucks and buses as well as a range of other engineering challenges.

Regimental dinners fuelled Simon’s continued love of food (and a desire to grow his own vegetables) and he still masterminds curry evenings for colleagues old and new. In his well-earned spare time, Simon escapes through historic novels to ancient Rome and into the vegetable patch.

Robert (Bobby) Hopes

Senior Information Security Consultant

Robert Hopes is a seasoned cyber security and information assurance consultant with over 17 years of experience, starting his career in the British Army before moving into the digital trenches of cyber. He’s worked across government, defence, CNI, and commercial sectors, applying globally recognised frameworks like ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, CAF, and ISA/IEC 62443. Robert has become particularly adept in the world of Operational Technology (OT), where he’s known for turning complex cyber problems into pragmatic, risk-based solutions that even the engineers don’t mind hearing about.

In the Defence space, Robert has supported major MOD programmes and contractors, delivering Security Management Plans, risk assessments, and SyOPs in line with JSP 440 and MOD cyber supply chain initiatives. He’s helped suppliers navigate the joys of DCPP and Secure by Design, making sure even the most ‘legacy’ of systems meet modern cyber expectations. He’s also led the implementation of ISO 27001 for a remote-first SME, proving that security and agility can get along with the right planning and the occasional battle-hardened nudge.

Robert’s hands-on work has included leading cyber assessments at water utilities, pharmaceutical plants, and manufacturing sites. He’s also built supplier assurance models, led OT risk assessments, and mapped entire network architectures with the precision of a military operation. When not reviewing supplier SAQs, he enjoys watching football (with firm tactical opinions) and playing padel.
